One of the most read, recited, and discussed poems in Bengali literature is Jibanananda Das' 1942 Bengali poetry entitled Banalata Sen. This lyric poem's title refers to a female character who is mentioned by name in the final line of each of its three stanzas. There was also found to be a very different draught of the poem from the published one. Jibanananda Das, a poet, was a reserved individual who favoured seclusion. It was thought implausible that he could have been in love with a woman, Banalata Sen or not, until the discovery of his diaries in the middle of the 1990s. Banalata Sen, however, is from Natore, a little town in the Rajshahi region of what was then Bengal, has become an emblem of feminine mystery as well as beauty and love.
