As an Indian-English writer, Amitabh Ghosh captured the attention of Buddhist readers with his first novel, The Circle of Reason. The Shadow Lines is his second novel. It won him the Sahitya Akademi Award (1989). Along with the colorful account of various incidents between an Indian and an English family, the narrator has added the memoirs of an old man. In this novel, the story sometimes moves from the past to the present, sometimes from the present to the past. But it never slows down the pace of the novel. Amitabha has such a mastery over language, so masterful in creating moving word pictures, creating characters with such effortless skill that the reader himself becomes the character of the story at one point without his knowledge; He found himself standing in front of history. And that history asks him: What is the meaning of political freedom and nationalism in today's world? Amitabh Ghosh was born (1956) in Kolkata but spent his childhood in Dhaka and Colombo. M. in Sociology from Delhi University. A. Amitabh D. Phil. Do in Oxford. The subject was Egyptian archaeology. He has taught in several universities abroad. He was associated with the Center for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta (1990-92). His writings have been translated into many languages. Authored books In An Ancient Land, The Calcutta Chromosome, Count Down, The Glass Palace, The Hungry Tide etc. The Ibis trilogy is his notable achievement.
