The name of Chaplakant Bhattacharya has almost been forgotten by Bengalis. He is unknown to the new generation. He was born on January 16, 1901 in Kotalipara, Faridpur, Bangladesh. He studied ethics at Presidency College. He came under the wrath of the college management after participating in the Non-Cooperation Movement. At the age of 40, when he was the assistant editor of 'Anandabazar Patrika', he took the MA examination privately from Calcutta University. When Prafulla Sarkar, one of the founder-editors of 'Anandabazar Patrika', passed away in 1946, Chaplakant took over as the editor. Later he returned to active politics. He was elected as a public representative from Paschim Dinajpur (now Raiganj) Lok Sabha constituency three times in 1957, 1962 and 1967. He became the president of the All India Newspaper Editors Conference in the sixties. He initiated the establishment of the Department of Journalism at Calcutta University. He died on January 16, 1989. Nine days after the Hindu genocide in Noakhali began on October 10, 1946, he ran for his life in the murderous city of Noakhali. The unexpected and unimaginable horrific barbaric events that had just struck the mind and awakened the consciousness and thoughts that had just been awakened were expressed in the discussion. But the inspiration for publishing the book is historical. The events of Noakhali-Tripura had appeared in the form of a communal eruption, but now they have become part of history.'...
