Sri Bankey Behari, who is from Allahabad, began his legal career as a junior to Dr. K. N. Katju and thereafter practised independently. He was involved in the infamous Meerut Conspiracy as well as other Raja Cases. He wrote a number of legal texts. He was gradually drawn to mysticism and met Mahatma Gandhi, Sri Ramana Maharshi, and afterwards Sri J. Krishnamurti and Sri Aurobindo. Finally, he gave up everything of his earthly possessions and became a sannyasin. For eight years, he went into seclusion, observed silence, read, wrote, and reflected on the best of all religions, including Christianity and Sufism. But it was the Gita and the Bhagavata that drew him in the most. He wrote a commentary on the Gita after working on it for sixteen years.
