To prepare for the future, our ancestors created a group of Naga Sadhus?a warrior determined to protect Dharma as declared by Adi Guru Shankaracharya in the eighth century. This sect of Shiva devotees fought selflessly and fearlessly and stood firm for the protection of Dharma. For centuries, they have been valiantly fighting to protect Dharma and temples and sacrificing their lives. In 1757, 111 Naga Sadhus received Divyastras from the idols of their deities. Because of their unwavering faith in Mahadev, they gained indomitable courage to protect the temples of Gokul. Led by a fearless Naga warrior Aja, they stood like an impenetrable wall against 4000 Afghani soldiers, 200 horsemen, 100 camel riders and 20 cannons. That barbaric Afghan army was led by Sardar Khan, the most ruthless general of Ahmed Shah Abdali, the Afghan ruler who destroyed temples and carried out massacres in India. That war is still going on. This is the testimony of the courage and determination of the Naga warriors. This is the struggle of Shiva devotees against the devils in human form. This is the battle of Gokul.
